2. Nature of the Service

TrainsRadar.com is an experimental and informational project that aggregates and visualizes public rail positioning data from multiple open sources. It is not an official service of any railway company or public body. The information displayed may contain errors, inaccuracies, delays or may be outdated at any time.

3. Personal Data We Collect

TrainsRadar collects the minimum amount of data necessary for the operation of the service:

3.1. Data provided voluntarily

• Contact/feedback form: name (optional), email address (optional), and the message content.
• Login (if applicable): basic profile data provided by the authentication provider (name, email).

3.2. Data collected automatically

• Technical browsing data: IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used exclusively for maintenance, security, and anonymous usage statistics purposes.
• Geolocation: only if the user grants explicit permission through their browser. Proximity features (such as "nearby stations") use it in the browser and do not send it to us.
• GPS sharing ("share my GPS" while on a train): only when the user turns it on. We receive the device's position, accuracy and speed, linked to a random contributor identifier generated in the browser (not to a name or account). Raw positions are deleted after 24 hours. For each shared trip we keep a summary (matched train, duration, number of points) and its start and end coordinates; the coordinates are deleted after 30 days.
• Push alerts: if the user subscribes to an alert, we store the browser's push endpoint and keys issued by the browser vendor, and what the alert is about (a train, a line, or an origin/destination pair and time window). They are kept until the user unsubscribes or the browser revokes the subscription.
• Local preferences: the visual theme (light/dark), language, and selected country are stored exclusively in the user's browser (localStorage) and are not transmitted to our servers.

3.3. Data we do NOT collect

• We do not collect payment data or financial information.
• We do not create behavioral profiles for advertising purposes.
• We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.

4. Purpose of Data Processing

• To provide the railway data visualization service.
• To respond to user inquiries and messages.
• To improve the technical performance of the website.
• To compile anonymous usage statistics.

5. Legal Basis

• Legitimate interest (Art. 6.1(f) GDPR): for the technical operation of the service and website security.
• Consent (Art. 6.1(a) GDPR): for geolocation, GPS sharing, push alerts and sending messages through the contact form. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by turning the feature off or unsubscribing.

6. Data Retention

Personal data shall be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected, or for the legally required period. Raw GPS positions from GPS sharing are deleted after 24 hours, and the start and end coordinates of shared trips after 30 days. Push alert subscriptions are kept until the user unsubscribes. Feedback messages are kept until they have been handled. Anonymous browsing data may be retained indefinitely for statistical purposes.

7. User Rights

In accordance with the GDPR and the LOPDGDD, the user has the right to:

• Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Erasure: request the deletion of their data.
• Objection: object to the processing of their data.
• Restriction: request the restriction of processing.
• Portability: receive their data in a structured format.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

TrainsRadar uses only local browser storage (localStorage) to save user preferences (visual theme, language, country). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics services that involve user tracking.

9. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. However, as this is an experimental project, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of the systems. The user uses the service at their own risk.

Rail positioning and timetable data are obtained from the following public and open sources. TrainsRadar is not affiliated with any of these entities:

11. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time. Modifications shall take effect from their publication on this page. We recommend reviewing this policy periodically.

12. Applicable Legislation

This policy is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights (LOPDGDD).
